We Dance A Morristhon
A Sunday in mid-September, 2013, found the AMM doing their bit for the fitness of, if not the nation, at least South Australia, alongside the City to Bay Fun Run.
The ensuing three hour marathon of almost continuous [Ha! –Ed] dancing was in itself a morris marathon. Early signs were not good with the heavens chucking it down an hour before the start but at the starters pistol the sky was clear with a gentle breeze, perfect weather for dancing, or running.
While not quite a captive market, the AMM were showcased to some 4000 persons having at least a vestige of interest in physical activity. Certainly a healthy prospect for a bit of recruiting next year. Although fatigue levels for the remaining day were up, all agreed it was a worthy and enjoyable effort.
Particular interests on the day were the sheer number of people stretching down Anzac Highway, the variety of the runners passing at any one time and the eeriness of the patter of passing feet (with little other noise). Although numbers of tigers and clowns were down on last year, there was a fair representation of gorillas and fairies (of both sex). Our remaining goal is to run the course in kit but, personally speaking, you are not only missing the dancing, but until someone invents a set of racing bells I’ll stay sidelined.
