A Samoyed Smiles At A Green Man
With the usual unspoken Morris start of the ‘arrive anywhere within an hour, commencing when we have a side’ philosophy, a beautiful sunny Saturday called the 27th of October 2013 found us sampling the wares and facility of the relatively new Three Smiling Samoyeds Brewery at Myponga.
Opting for the greater space of the gravel-strewn dance floor outside we danced up a few of the old favourites, the new favourites and even some of the more indifferent. All this under the gaze of the brewery’s namesakes, the smiling of which we took at their word as, with little in evidence, nobody was game to put it to the test. But the dancing was good.
The morning heartstarter was an arrangement of two LP records masquerading as beer tasting glass racks and, judging from the record labels, some were now doing their best work, even with six large holes punched in them. And their best they did with some palatable and intriguing beers. The chilli beer was emphatically so but, personally, one glass was enough, surely the pepper shall not lay down with the hop [I think there’s something about that in Leviticus –Ed].
Fortifying themselves with a pizza lunch, the Flying Morris Squad then processed in the vehicular sense to one of our favourites, the Green Man Inn at Ashbourne. Dancing then resumed with frequent libations for the rest of the day as we aspired to crack the magical 70 dances in a day. Success begat exhaustion and exhaustion begat us wending our individual ways back to hearth and home.
